Raffie's Special Outing
Al Rafael, (Raffie) is a very friendly 19 year old boy, who has faced many medical and life challenges throughout his young life. He was diagnosed with Panhypopituitarism and autism, as well as other disabilities at a very young age. He has experienced repeated hospitalizations, requires daily injectable and oral medications with close monitoring to remain healthy enough to participate in everyday life. It was the staff at Lurie’s Children Hospital that helped him thrive despite these challenges. He is now in a home where he hopes to remain through young adulthood, with a caregiver that is a great match for his personality and needs.
Growing up in the foster home, Raffie is always smiling, enjoying the simple moments in his daily routines, such as going to school, sharing meals with his caregiver, and especially Nic junior shows. He especially loves Peppa pig, Spongebob, Paw Patrol, and Blaze the monster truck. It was his caseworker and medical team who reached out to A Special Wish - Chicago, in hopes of providing Raffie a special adventure. The special wish team assembled for Raffie began creating this experience, working with Carol, his caregiver, and his medical staff to coordinate a unique outing based on all of Raffie’s favorites. The destination chosen was Peppa Pig Playland and Legoland in Schaumburg. Plans were then set up to include his foster care mom and foster brother, for a fun adventure outing and dinner for all. Being able to provide Raffie and his foster family with his first vacation ever was not only a thrill for Raffie, but for the volunteers at A Special Wish - Chicago as well. Thank you for the opportunity, Raffie!
Thumbs up for a good day!
